Geleen, Dublin, Brussels - 25 June 2003, DSM,
one of the world's largest specialty chemicals providers,
which continuously focuses on providing superior services
to customers, is announcing today that it has selected
Transwide as its standard for land transport execution.
By using Transwide, DSM aims to offer real time fulfillment
transport information to its end customers.
DSM started using Transwide in December 2002 in
a pilot environment at its business unit ACN and
is now in the process of implementing the road and
rail solutions in several business groups. Consequently
the number of transactions and carriers increases
significantly. The information from the Transwide
system is also integrated into the DSM web-shop
so that end customers can have full visibility on
the status of road transport fulfillment.
"After having successfully tested its functionalities,
we selected Transwide as our standard for transport
technology execution based on its leadership position
in European transport execution and on its solid
corporate shareholding," said Koen Devits,
Director DSM Corporate e-Business. With Transwide,
DSM now has one standard communication channel to
its land transport carriers. This standard channel
will enable DSM to simplify processes, reduce errors
and costly one-to-one connections.
Transwide benefits
"Before using Transwide, when a truck left
our factories, we did not receive enough systematic
information on what was happening during transport
and at the end-customers' premises. We had to rely
on manual data provided by our carriers, which we
received weeks after the delivery and which were
inconsistent - throughout our carrier base,"
said Jan Kaptijn, eBusiness Manager at DSM ACN.
"With Transwide, we receive information consistently,
in real time and pro-actively without imposing any
costs on our carriers."
"DSM is at the forefront of implementing technology
solutions to offer best in class services to end
customers and therefore we are pleased that DSM
has selected Transwide," said Gregory Blondeau,
Business Development Director at Transwide. "With
Transwide, DSM will increase process efficiency
and provide real time information to its end customers
on, for example, time of arrival or on the exact
load details."
Transwide
Transwide is a pan-European land transport execution
solution provider and offers a suite of technology
solutions to enable the electronic communication
and visibility of transport orders, transport documents,
waiting times, reservations, real time tracking,
and signatures. Transwide has about 100 customers.
Transwide serves both carriers and shippers equally
and does not have shippers or carriers in its shareholder
base. For more information, see

DSM
DSM is active worldwide in life science products,
performance materials and industrial chemicals.
The group has annual sales in 2002 of close to EUR
5.6 billion and employs about 18,500 people at more
than 200 sites across the world. DSM ranks among
the global leaders in many of its fields. The company's
strategic aim is to grow its sales - partly through
acquisitions - to a level of approx. EUR 10 billion
by 2005. By that time at least 80% of sales should
be generated by specialties, i.e. advanced chemical
and biotechnological products for the life science
industry and performance materials. This strategy
represents a continuation of the company's ongoing
transformation and concentration on global leadership
positions in high-added-value activities characterized
by high growth and more stable profit levels. More
